Lane Michel – Inspired Wayshower, Personal Coach, and Business Consultant

Thanks for tuning in for another awesome episode we have for you. Irene Weinberg, my favorite cohost of all time, is joining me for another great show.

Steph, how are you doing?

Good, just staying warm. As we’ve said, this is a good snuggling show to read up on, cozy too. We were chatting, and I wanted to let our readers out there know, we do a cool new feature. We offer voice recording. If you folks are reading our upcoming guest and you have any questions or feedback for myself, Irene, or Lane, who we’re about to introduce, you can go through the Anchor App for your tech-savvy ones and leave us voice messages. Irene, we’re going to do an episode and share a lot of those coming up. I hope you folks will give us feedback and ask us questions. With that, Irene, why don’t you introduce our guest?

I’m honored to introduce Lane Michel, who has learned to follow his heart, intuition, and curiosity to find and live his signature purpose. People think of a sole purpose as something for an individual, but he also works with companies, corporations, and groups of people to find that. We’ll talk to him about that and how that helps people work together better.

He calls all of this living his heart adventure. Over more than three decades of his career, Lane has a mass experience and feels ranging from space science to computer technology marketing, customer relationship management, baseball, Venture Capital, public safety, management consulting, animal rescue, and leadership development.

This work has taken him to over twenty countries across our planet. He often describes the roles he has performed, from business owner to executive to engineer to consultant and coach as a conscious unfolding of roles that help people and organizations fully live their unique purpose. I am very honored to introduce Lane, who is unique and special. Lane, how about kicking in and explaining to people what you do and how you came to be doing this?

I’d love to. Irene and Stephanie, it’s an honor to be with you. This is such an important topic for people. What a crazy world we live in, but a crazy cool world. We’re rebirthing all the time. I know I am. It’s a pleasure to be with you. Every time I hear that introduction, it’s like, “What a story we all can live? What a story that I have lived and continue to live?” I’m so excited about learning, growth, finding my way, then sharing that. It’s a pleasure to be here with you.

Tell us about how you came to do this particular thing you’re doing now and explain to everybody what exactly it is and how you were inspired to do this.

I do call myself a Wayshower. I had clients who labeled me with that, and while I may reject labels, I thought that was cool. How did I become a wayshower? From my early childhood, my father passed away when I was ten years old. That was a very formative recourse. I ended up being the oldest child at home, and that shaped a lot of what I began doing as a man in this world.

I was very fortunate to have a mother who kept me and my gifts. I’ve always been very intuitive and energy-sensitive, and she made that normal. Going forward with that in life, it still plays in everything I do. I say I’m living my choices with the courage to reinvent my life. That’s a phrase I’ve used a lot of times. In that, I’ve learned to live what I believe and not just what I see.

We all have stories and I’ve got my stories. I’m going to share 1 or 2 with you and your readers. With consciousness, I’ve learned that every time, of every one of these life events, these tragedies, to fall downs, to even wonderful exciting things, whether heart-crunching disappointment to a wonder-filled miracle, every one of those has been teaching moments for me. I arrived at a place where if I could continue to focus on the fact that I’m being helped like all of us are being helped all the time, then I want to receive all of that help and encourage me to go forward.

Every life event, from tragedies to wonderful, exciting things, has been a teaching moment. Share on X

Does your concept of being helped all the time mean that you’re being held by a higher source?

A higher source that I believe that not only my soul but all that we are is interconnected. Through spirit and a greater consciousness, we’re all connected. It’s from a higher source and my soul. We’re all completely connected. How many times have you had a situation where you were struggling with something and you needed some help or sign and then somebody, maybe a random person or a close family member, delivered the words or the little symbol that moved you forward? That, for me, is a sign of our connectedness and an answer to a call for help or a call for a message.

I’ve had that happen to me quite a few times. For those of our audience who don’t understand what a wayshower is because you refer to that, I have a definition and I think you’ll agree with it, Lane. It’s a person who embodies qualities that others need to absorb and learn. They carry on these qualities in full measure so the light that they carry can transfer to the consciousness of all who are around them and who want to take that in.

I love that, and I agree with that. I’ve heard some very similar things as well. For me, I want to live my heart and the love that I’ve got for every situation and every individual I work with. We’re all such amazing people, animals, and an amazing world at a fantastic time we’re in. It’s a challenge. Raise up and help out.

How do you take what you do? I want our readers to know. You have this inspiring story about being knocked unconscious by a horse and this miracle that happened to you. I’d love for us to share that with the readers. How do you take what you do as a wayshower and translate this to corporations? There’s competition. There are people criticizing each other all over the place and having no tolerance for each other. How do you get people to change their point of view?

The honest answer is that a lot of it has to come from the very top of organizations. I don’t care if it’s a nonprofit, for-profit, or a government entity. The top leadership has to embrace, model, and shift the organization to sustain. We all know that real change comes from all of us. It’s not waiting around for top leadership to see the light or to have the next program.

When people can each day approach their work or play with a consciousness and a receptivity, but even more importantly, a resilience to stay on their purpose, it catalyzes something that gets noticed. We’ve seen this in social media. If you’ve ever been to a private organization where something sparks a change, once that cat’s out of the bag, it is not going back in. If it’s catalyzed, it’s going to happen.

I work in both of those aspects. With leadership, I’ve been that top leader. Frankly, half the executives are fearful that we will find out they don’t know what they’re doing. We’re making it up as best we can and applying experience, but there’s a tremendous amount of responsibility for running an organization. What I do is bring in as much background and credentials and science even behind what happens. For instance, resilience is the idea of being able to have the emotional strength and the energy to be able to live our purpose and the organization’s purpose.

GAR 27 | Science Of Resilience

Science Of Resilience: Resilience is this idea of having emotional strength. Have the energy to live our purpose and the organization’s purpose.

I aligned and am certified through the Institute of HeartMath to be able to teach people about heart rate variability, and one of the most important tools begins with breath, by the way. All of us who are on a spiritual path understand that everything begins with breath. I bring in science. I bring in the science of heart, mind, and coherence. I bring in the science of resilience and emotional intelligence to bring heart intelligence.

I give people wearable devices that entrain so that they can breathe and invoke love and gratitude, and see that it makes a difference in their resilience, energy, capacity, and communication. That’s one example of bringing real emerging or emerged scientific databases, things that organizations can get behind. It’s real and tangible. It isn’t just a training class. It becomes a way an organization speaks and moves energy. That is a perfect example of what organizations need, and what I know I have to bring so that the leadership and the wayshowers within the organization will embrace and move forward.

Do you notice that people make permanent changes after doing this, or do they go backward to old patterns?

It’s both. I’ll be real honest. I used to get very frustrated. I would spend a lot of effort in helping people to see a change and begin to move down a change and to have them sit back. It was my ego involved. I thought we were successful. I’m pretty good. I’ll call up my ego, and I have my colleagues who called my ego out, and I call theirs. We all need that in life.

The reality is, we all go through a journey. People do slip back. We all slip back, and yet when we look at the pattern of our choices, if we choose to make a change, it’s not one choice. It’s choosing and re-choosing. To have a wayshower to open up the path, have a wayshower that re-choses you and supports the determination to sustain a courageous change in your life. Whether you call that a personal shaman, a coach, or a therapist, we all need help because sustaining these big pages, it is what life is about.

GAR 27 | Science Of Resilience

Science Of Resilience: We all go through a journey, and people do slip back, and if we choose to make a change, it’s not one choice.

It sounds like you inspire people. How about telling people this unbelievable story about leaving your executive role, how you found the courage to do that, and how you healed? That’s an amazing story, Lane.

In a nutshell, I mentioned that ego part. I was pretty successful. I had sought out what I wanted as the LinkedIn profile, the resume, and the CV. I was enjoying being an executive. It was a mid-sized company that was running a good share of the company. Honestly, I was in physically pretty bad shape. I had very high blood pressure and was overweight. I live in California. I was running a lot of this company based in North Carolina. You can imagine how many times I was crossing the country. I was always with customers. I’m in a hotel room in Boston, about to meet with some analysts, and I have a kidney stone at 3:00 in the morning. If your readers have kidney stones, I apologize for invoking that pain memory.

I know people who have kidney stones, and it’s fully excruciating.

I somehow made myself way back to California. I decided at that point, the kidney stone was that moment that I had to shift a lot of what I was about or I knew I wasn’t going to be around. I’d also become emotionally disconnected. It was one of those economic downturn times and I had to potentially lay off people. We did have to lay off people. As an executive, I hate that. It disrupts lives and yet, I know that it’s a cycle, but that’s emotional.

To make it even more exciting, I have my mother brought to my home in California from where she was in her last days. She passed away at that very time. I was right at her side. That was a beautiful time, but the emotional toll, the physical, work, and stress, all of that at once was beginning to crank me down. The majority owner of the firm and I mutually agreed that I needed to go. Now, look what my ego was doing. I’m an executive. What do you do at that point?

I had a person locally say, “You live in Mount Shasta, California. It’s your home base. There’s hiking and beauty.” It was March or April, so the spring is thriving. As I left my executive title, role, and persona, I decided to pause for about six months to recover, renew, and re-choose my life. Another person, a very similar path and I ended up doing that hiking together and still very close. We help each other out quite a bit as colleagues.

I already had to reevaluate who I was and what ego this was. I’d built a big, cool ego. I didn’t even like who I was with that ego. It wasn’t me because, honestly, I love being good, doing good, vetting, and caring. I love helping people. As a leader, I’m very focused on people, whether they are customers or shareholders. I didn’t care. It was all about people.

I decided not to go back to executive jobs. As soon as I made that decision, I had offers to run companies in New York. Nothing in California. I had a “big income” and all these trappings that come with it. I re-chose not to go there again. Instead, I chose to follow my heart adventure, write a book, and become an entrepreneur. The first thing I co-founded was a company that taught about feelings and emotions to children and adults. That was a change. That was a huge shift.

Honestly, that pause I took and the trace to recreate who I was, was one of the most difficult, excruciating, and emotionally exhausting times of my life. I thank God and all of the people who came and were part of that journey with me because I would not have been able to do it alone. I wouldn’t have been able to be a wayshower if I hadn’t gone through that very time in my life, including, I mentioned, creating a company that was about feeling some emotions. I seem to miss the fact that I had to get in touch with my feelings and emotions.

How did you do that?

I used our products and I studied Positive Psychology, which is the basis of the products. I worked with children and adults. I went out to conferences. I worked with schools, teachers, counselors, administrators, and community service people to not only share but learn about my own emotions and how to help people with theirs. That led me to HeartMath, resilience, emotional intelligence, and hard intelligence.

Is your company called HeartMath?

No, I’m aligned with HeartMath, which is based in California. It’s been around for several years, scientific research on heart-mind coherence and heart rate variability. They’re the leading, not only thinkers but also, developers of products that help us learn how to gain coherence, that harmony between mind, heart, and our physical bodies and our spirit, or non-local intuition in scientific terms.

You had a miracle that I’d love you to mention. This interview is never going to be long enough, but I would love for you to reference that miracle that you had, that miracle of healing because people need to understand there’s so much more than the physical healing journeys.

You’re talking about the incident with the horse. Along that journey, after leaving my executive job and getting myself, I co-founded a large animal sanctuary and rescue, a nonprofit organization adversely. I’ve always had a bond with horses. They’re the most emotionally intelligent beings that have ever been around, other than dolphins, maybe. Both of them equally. It was an honor to spend a couple of years building that organization.

I would go out and rescue horses. I would do the work seven days a week of building a sanctuary, leading, and rescuing. I went on a rescue. While putting a horse in a trailer that seemed very calm, right at the worst part, the front of the trailer, those who work with horses, and the slant trailer, horsepower. You want to get a horse tied up and out quickly. I felt an immediate emotional shift and the horse panicked.

I tried to turn around and exit but I have no memory from that point forward. Apparently, the horse exploded, knocked me against the steel wall of the trailer, and I was out. I was bleeding all over the place. Somehow, this horse which had exploded in terror immediately calmed down, backed up, and stepped around my body, laying flat on the trailer floor, and out of the trailer without stepping on and killing me because that would be death right here.

I’m staring up at the ceiling of the trailer, not knowing what happened, but my first thought was, “I’m sure glad I cleaned out this trailer before whatever just happened, happened.” I was so protected. I was taken by ambulance to the ER. The first CT scan showed blood on the front of my brain. Only a little bit but with blood starting, that is not a good thing.

That neurosurgeon called in. I was admitted and they had planned surgery the next day or as soon as possible because they’d have to let that pressure and get that blood out of the brain, which apparently, normally takes 3 or 4 months. I was surrounded by the family and by the team. It’s a phenomenal team streaming love at me. I know the gravity of the situation. There was so much love I felt from the team, from those connected but from spirit as well. I was shown where the blood was.

Overnight, I received that love. The neurosurgeon came in the morning after my second scan. I was out on scan and wheeled back into my room. I remember Dr. Sharp, the neurosurgeon, came in and he scratched his head. He says, “Clearly, the first scan was an error because this scan shows there’s no blood in your brain.” That’s not even possible because it takes 3 or 4 months to recover. I was released hours later and back at home and healing.

I’m so grateful. I talk about spirit emotions. We have human emotions, all of that duality, hate versus love, sadness, and happiness. In spirit, we have emotion too and I believe it’s love. We don’t have words adequate enough to express the aspects, dimensions, and depth of love we have in spirit, but I felt it that night. That love heals. It healed me.

That’s an amazing story. Sitting for what we do, Grief and Rebirth, and how people can heal. There is more to help them than what we see physically in our lives. That is very important also. It’s all about love.

I use the phrase infinite love to try to characterize it differently than conditional love, unconditional love, or romantic love. Infinite love is something that’s far beyond anything that we’re able to tap into. Even in the quantum belief system, quantum science, there’s something far beyond. It’s that spooky thing that makes everything work.

Infinite love is something that's far beyond anything that we can tap into Share on X

Lane, a lot of people are starting to understand a lot of this and where you were back on all this is happening and you’ve taken this journey. What was your first a-ha to dig into and understand spirit? What would be your advice to anyone reading who may be in the same position and trying to comprehend it?

It’s curiosity. The minute curiosity is sparked, it doesn’t matter whether it’s curiosity about your mind, heart, spirit, or soul. Whatever sparks the curiosity, that has been brought to us. That’s brought to you. Be like a child with such curiosity and wonder. Don’t care what anybody thinks. Take in, read, experience, and listen.

Most importantly, breathe into that curiosity because that curiosity is what’s generally missing from everybody. Curiosity has the imagination to the hunger to learn. We’re numbed out. We’re stressed out but that curiosity is a spark that comes from some other place, whether your belief system is spirit, soul, or God. It doesn’t matter. Something has sparked. Notice it, embrace it, and be like a child with it.

GAR 27 | Science Of Resilience

Science Of Resilience: Breathe into that curiosity because that is what’s generally missing from everybody today.

I would say that’s about having an open mind because a lot of people may feel that curiosity but they’re closed down and they won’t follow it.

A good point you made right there is people should reach out and read. A lot of people are afraid sometimes to experience it but now with this show, even Irene’s book, you’re able to go on Amazon and privately be curious, poke around, and open yourself to an awakening that will not essentially be embarrassing if you’re too afraid to start until you’re ready to be as widely open as yourself and Irene. One day, we’ll all get there. I’m always trying to help these readers out there that are curious. That’s why they’re tuning in, Lane. I think that your show and all your words will be very helpful for them.

That’s wonderful. That’s a gift and I appreciate the gift of being with you and with your readers.

Let me ask you, Lane. I think you’ve said but do you have a special tip about finding joy in life?

One of the biggest tips is to pause for that choice that you can make. Pause, listen, connect, and choose how you want to live. If we have that beautiful pause, you will be amazed at how much wisdom you have and how much can come to you. Just pause. We’re too quick. We’re too fast. We want instant gratification but pause, breathe, listen, and connect and then you will get the guidance that you need.

Pause, listen, and connect. Then, choose how you want to live. Share on X

That will bring you joy.

That is the wonder of it all. It’s beautiful. Pause and then you’re going to be delighted at what happens when you pause.

That’s your homework out there then, everyone. You need to pause after reading this for a couple of minutes and breathe. I like that because what’s a better time? You’re already sitting and reading it, so why not a couple of more minutes to take in the silence, listen, and pause?

I love that.

Lane, can you tell us quickly where we can learn more about you? We’ll have them make some comments. If we do have any questions and video calls, we’ll be sure to let you know but if they want to reach out to you directly, where should they go?

You can go to my website LaneMichel.com. My email is Lane@LaneMichel.com. Feel free to email me. I give a free introductory half-hour appointment. There’s an online calendar. You can grab a time there and we can talk. I help individuals. I work with organizations and companies. It’s working toward purpose and being able to have engaged, powered, and energized people and organizations, but resilience, emotional intelligence, managing our human energy, and a lot of quantum things. I’d love to talk about that in another episode on some quantum side of things. I bring a lot of ancient wisdom with the latest science and practices to unlock human energy, purpose, and potential. I do that one person, one organization at a time.

GAR 27 | Science Of Resilience

Science Of Resilience: I bring a lot of ancient wisdom with the latest science practices to unlock human energy purpose and potential.

I hate to wrap it up, but all good things must temporarily end.

Thank you both.

Irene, as you always like to say, to be continued.

Thank you, everyone.

“I don’t even remember how I chanced upon Irene and her podcasts but I am so glad that I did. My beloved passed away unexpectedly 11 months ago and I have been on quite a journey. The various guests that Irene interviews have allowed me to find comfort and insight during this difficult year. And I have to say that Irene is an exceptional interviewer! She allows her guests to have the floor but her Q’s really penetrate to the heart of the matter being discussed and really do bring out the best information. Thank you Jan Warner for your interview, and thank you Irene for making all of these interviews possible. I feel that you have helped me tremendously as I process my grief.”
