Healing Grief Through the Subconscious With Hypnotherapy
I hope this message finds each of you so very well. I am speaking to you from my studio in West Orange, New Jersey, and I could not be more delighted to have the pleasure of interviewing Joseph Drumheller, whose life’s work aligns with the Mission of the show, which is to educate, enlighten, and provide healing choices so that people can step into the greatest version of who they are.
Precisely the path to which Joseph has devoted his life. Joseph is a master hypnotherapist, an energy healer, and the founder of the JDH Academy of Wellness, a leading educational institute in hypnotherapy, meditation, healing, and spirituality. He is also a four-time award-winning author whose body of work spans fiction, nonfiction, and children’s literature.
For more than three decades, Joseph has been a devoted champion of humanity’s evolution, guiding soul-level transformation with depth, clarity, and compassion. He has supported thousands of spiritual seekers, creatives, and conscious professionals in healing, awakening, and stepping into the fullest expression of who they are meant to become.
His path includes six years serving as a clinical hypnotherapist in a cancer radiation clinic in Bellingham, Washington, and across his career, Joseph has facilitated over 2,000 private sessions and taught more than 20,000 students through his online programs, touching lives in 147 countries around the world.
Joseph’s work blends deep relaxation, subconscious healing, and quantum energy practices to dissolve inner blocks, reprogram limiting beliefs, and open the door to higher states of consciousness. His mission is grounded in a profound respect for the unseen forces that shape our lives. Before he stepped into the world of healing and spirituality, Joseph spent years as a mineral exploration geologist, an unexpected beginning that taught him to listen deeply to the earth and to spirit, a connection that continues to guide his work.
I am looking forward to talking with Joseph, who is joining me from Spokane, Washington, about the powerful awakening experiences that accentuated his lifelong draw to spirituality, why learning how to collectively tap into spiritual energy will be part of our healing and evolution as a species, the benefits of hypnotherapy, and the role of the subconscious mind in healing grief. We will also discuss this type of massive human transformation we are all experiencing, and if every single person comes into a lifetime with the help of guardian angels, and more, for a fascinating conversation that will surely be filled with many inspiring insights.

Joseph, a warm welcome to the show.
That was me. Who is that you are you talking to?
Who is that guy? You had a really rich life filled with helping people.
It has. It is still going. We are just beginning now.
Awakening Experiences That Led To A Life Of Spirituality
We have only just begun. Let us have everybody get to know you from the beginning. I know that you had some powerful awakening experiences, three, but what would you like to tell us? They accentuated your lifelong draw to spirituality, because you were a geologist, you did not start out this way, but then some stuff happened, right?
Yeah, kind of. I would say that my spiritual life began when I was about five years old. What my dad did was take us out hunting and camping. At that time, I would have what I would call Zen experiences of nature. I knew that everything was alive in nature, not only the animals and the birds, but the air and the water and the wind, everything was alive. I knew that at a very early age. I had this deep spiritual connection with nature at a very early age. That led me to get a master’s degree in geology and work as a geologist for a number of years.
1991 was a very fateful year for me when I read a newsletter at a little bookstore about hypnotherapy. When I read the newsletter, I thought, “That is really interesting.” I was living in a little town in the middle of nowhere. I read it again. I said, “That is fascinating. I read it a third time. I got to try this.” I went to see a hypnotherapist who lived in this little town. As we are going into this first session, she asked me, “Why are you here?” “It’s because I read this little newsletter, I thought it would be pretty intriguing.”
She is quite intuitive. She says, “No, why are you here?” I stopped. I heard something come out of my mouth that I did not know who said. It was like somebody else said it. What came out of my mouth was, “I feel like I have a block to my creativity.” At that point in my life, I was in my late twenties. I had a couple of kids, small kids, I was married, working jobs and stuff, just doing the regular life.
We go into this session with a block to my creativity, and she is taking me through this hypnotherapy session, and she stops in the middle as an intuitive person that she is. She says, “What does the word abandonment mean to you?” At that moment, I just absolutely exploded into tears. I saw one image after another, after another, after another of times in my life where I have been abandoned.
I just had a major meltdown in front of this person I do not even know. I leave the session, I go out, and I am going to my car, and I am standing there thinking. I was thinking a couple of things. One, I felt really embarrassed because I just had this major meltdown with somebody I do not even know. The second thing I realised was that “I just stumbled onto some very powerful medicine and I do not know what this is, but I am hooked.”
I love how you call it medicine.
It is. What it’s like is spiritual medicine. It is not like the pills that you take.
Instead of saying I stumbled on woo woo, I stumbled on powerful medicine.
It is borrowing it from Native Americans. I went home, and then I immediately went home afterwards. I realised the positive cause and effect of what you do in a hypnotherapy session, where you’re working with the abstract imagination and whatnot and how that can have an immediate impact on your day-to-day life with intention.
I went home, and almost instantly, I went through an unexpected divorce. I am out of the house like that weekend, totally unexpected. I was later to not only lose my job, but I would later, through that divorce, lose my children essentially. I was going back to this woman like every two weeks or so, and all this stuff was happening on the inside. I was working a job for the county there. I got politicked out of that job, so I lost my job. Here I am, I have lost my wife, my kids, and my job.
I was not making any money, so I had to leave the town I was living in and move back to my hometown, because I was broke. I essentially had to leave my friends behind. I left my wife, my kids, my job, and my friends, and went back home with my tail between my legs to try and figure life out. In the process, this is like three years of awakening. I am having all these mystical experiences during this time. I am going back to this woman, realising later that these would be called Kundalini experiences. It is really surreal stuff.
Just briefly, could you describe for people what a Kundalini experience is, in case someone does not know?
A Kundalini experience is when your life force energy gets awakened in your body. Normally, you will feel the energy release at the base of your spine and will go up through your spine and come out the top of your head. Everyone is different, but what is happening is that the life force energy is being activated in your body and in your energy field.
That is going to have a tremendous impact, because the way we’re designed as people, how we experience life and what we experience life as is a reflection of what is going on inside of us, good, bad, indifferent. When you go through a Kundalini or a major awakening experience, it is going to have a major impact on your external life.
How and what we experience in life is a reflection of what is going on inside of ourselves. Share on X
It is going to ripple it out, and what you get reflected back to you is going to be different from what it was before. That is why, sometimes when people go through a spiritual awakening experience, they may have to let go of some things. For me, at first, it was my marriage. I go back, I am having these Kundalini experiences and whatever.
At that time, I started playing bass guitar, and I got into a band. I started writing. I started painting. Some of my paintings ended up on the walls of galleries in New York City. I realized after about three years, thinking back on that first session, my intention was to, I wanted to release a block to my creativity. That happened. I just had to let go of everything that was in the way, which just happened to be everything.
Transformation.
Experiencing Healing And Becoming A Healer Through Hypnotherapy
At that time, I got certified in hypnotherapy. That was in 1991, which I had no idea was going to be a major turning point in my life. That was my first awakening experience. It was major. It’s very impactful. There is another one. I played around with hypnotherapy for about ten years or so. Just using it on myself, my friends and my family.
I was really interested in using it on myself. I would go into these healing experiences. I noticed that when I take people through these healing experiences, I would also experience healing. It is like, “This is great.” I was doing these free sessions, trading with people, on the back, more interested in, and it sounds selfish, but interested in my healing as much as I was in theirs.
It is not selfish. If you do not heal yourself, how can you help other people?
I had that incentive. I ended up moving to Bellingham in 2002, and I was reading this little marketing book. They had these little marketing books called Guerrilla Marketing. I had not really done my hypnotherapy. I thought, “I am going to do it in Bellingham.” Just give it a try, and get out there and do it with clients more.
I was reading this little book called Guerrilla Marketing, which says, “If you want to market yourself, you should volunteer and do this.” I said, “I am going to volunteer at the hospital. I just went to the hospital.” I said, “I am going to volunteer.” I am new to this town. I just want to meet people. I thought I would be carrying trays to patients or helping people with their wheelchairs or whatever, just to get out there.
I went into the volunteer office, and they immediately sent me over to the cancer clinic and wanted to do hypnotherapy through their wellness program. All of a sudden, I am not only doing hypnotherapy, even though I have been doing it for ten years, I feel like I am new at it. All of a sudden, I am in the cancer unit, and it is just like, this is full-on big time.
This is high-level healing we are working on. Over that period, I was becoming more adept and becoming a good hypnotherapist. In 2009, I think it was, I always felt like I understood the subconscious now. I am getting how it works. I am actually seeing some incredible results with people in the cancer units. That is a whole other story. I always had this thing in the back of my mind.
I would hear stuff like spiritual awakenings or connecting to the divine or whatever you call it. I always knew that I did not have that experience, and I wanted to have it because it was just something that I yearned for, because I worked in hypnotherapy in the subconscious, but I just felt like there was this whole other level that I could not go to, and I did not know how to do it. I had no clue. My wife at the time, I was married to a woman from England. She comes home with these one day with these books and DVDs of this place called Oneness University in India.
I just have to clear this up. You divorced one wife, and now you have a new wife.
The second one is from England. She was a massage therapist.
Now you found someone more in tune.
More in tune with where I was at that stage in my life. She brings home these materials from this place called Oneness University in India. They said they had this, through their history, they had developed this phenomenon called the oneness blessing, which is essentially hands-on healing. They place their hands on your head, and then they claim that you go through a neurobiological shift in your brain that would open you up to divine energy.
The first time I heard that, I thought okay, this is a cult, and you want to stay away from these people. I kept watching their books and their DVDs and whatnot, and I thought, “These people that they are interviewing, first of all, this place is huge. It has three campuses. It is like a university. It is big.” I am like, “There must be something legit to it.”
I see all these people who are interviewing, and they are like regular people, and even a few famous people thrown in there. They have some credibility and stuff. This could be a long story, so cut me off. Much happened. In any case, I thought, “I am going to go try this out.” I was working as a geologist in, where was I working? I was working in Northern Canada by the Arctic Ocean.
I had some time off, so I was going to go to this Oneness University to experience their oneness Deeksha. I went twice. One was in 2008. It was in September. I went there, and it was at a place called Namale. It was a retreat centre in Fiji. There was a week-long course. They are going to take you through to open you up to their experience of divine energy. I go to this event, and this white guy gets up and starts welcoming us to this event. I am going, “I do not want to see a white guy. I want to see the guys in their robes from India.”
It is a real thing.
I did not come here to listen to an American. I lean over to this guy sitting next to me, there is like 50 of us in this class. I said, “Who is that guy?” He said, “That is Tony Robbins.” I did not know who Tony Robbins was, but this was his facility that it was at. If you love, hate or whatever about Tony Robbins, this is not about Tony Robbins, but there was a period of time where Oneness University and Tony Robbins crossed paths, and they had courses at his facility.
There are these two major global energies coming into one spot at one time. I just happened to be there when it happened. I went through whatever they said they were going to offer to awaken you to spiritual energies. They delivered in spades. I went through one week of solid and one mystical experience after another, after another. I saw a picture of me at the end of that week at the celebration dinner, and I was wasted. I was so exhausted because it was like a spiritual boot camp. I could not believe the stuff that was happening.
That is like, it is in the book that you talked about some of that. I go home after that, and I am still working as a geologist, but I could feel that my lower three chakras had been blown open, and they were just wide open. I did not know what else to call it. I did not know what was happening. I did not do anything. I was just aware of it and went back to work and just lived my life. I said, “I would like to go back again.” I went back again in March. This time, I went all the way to their campus in India.
That was your India experience.
Guys in robes, and you know, shake their heads like that. “I know Joseph.” I get to India, and I go through this week-long experience, and absolutely nothing happens. I thought I had come a long way. I have wasted my time. I have wasted money, my energy, and I have wasted everything. The last class we are going to is a 2 or 3-hour course. I thought, “I do not even feel like going. This has just been such a waste.” I went into that last one. It was on my 50th birthday.
This guy walks in by the name of Ananda Giri, who is like the head teacher for the entire university. We had never seen him before. We just knew of him on video. I am going, “The man is really here.” I am sitting there listening to him, and the way he would talk, he’s like this impish little, very pure spirit, like a real spiritual guy.
He would talk, and he’d smile, and every so often, as he talked, the way he spoke, he would stop and pause frequently. You could see that his eyes were glazed over and that whenever he stopped, he was tapping into something that the rest of us all wanted to tap into. This guy was totally tuned in. We are going through this last thing for two hours. Every time he would pause, and I was sitting in the back in the dark, he would look in my direction.
I did not know if he was looking at me, but his head just naturally went that way. For two hours, I could feel energy coming off his eyes, going into mine and completely rewiring my body. I could believe what was going on. It is like having this major personal download. I am going, “Whatever.” I do not know what to make of it. I go back home, and now all of my chakras are open.
He saw you, Joseph.
Did he? Do you think?
That is what I think, because of how he was directing that, and he was opening.
It was incredible. It was an unbelievable experience. All of a sudden, my wasted week was not. In fact, it was a major transformation. I go home. All of my chakras are open. Lo and behold, I go through another very unexpected divorce. My energy has gone up, so my world on the outside is going to be reflected back to me, those who are not at that level of vibration. You know how that story goes. I am still working at the hospital, and now I have energy coming through my hands at the cancer unit.
You got Reiki energy coming through.
They call it Oneness Deeksha, but it is the same idea. Now I am doing that. That is in that process. I went from being a hypnotherapist to a healer in the cancer unit. I had some miraculous stuff happen there that cannot be explained, and people attribute it to the work we did, but there were a number of clients that I worked with that would attribute the work that we did together as helpful in their treatment. It was beneficial.
I am sure it was. Did you talk about, or does this come from other experiences that you’ve had, that you have such an understanding of this massive human transformation we are all experiencing?
I go back to the ‘90s, when Wayne Dyer and all those guys, and so there was a lot of talk of it back then about global transformation and an awakening. Now we are up into the 2020s or whatever, and now it is actually happening. What they talked about was actually, they were not kidding. I’ve listened to Mystics saying that the 2020s are going to be the pivotal generation. This is it. It is going to hit the fan this decade, and the awakening is going to start to happen. None of us knows how that is going to work out, but we all know that the chaos is here. The awakening is also here.
That is right. People always talk about the spiritual world. They always talk about how we are entering the Aquarian age.
Age of Aquarius. The Aquarians, all that Mercury stuff. That is like computers, AI and all that stuff, you know.
We are here. Why is it that learning how to collectively tap into spiritual energy is going to be part of our healing and evolution as a species? You are saying that these are going to turn from all this chaos to cool healing and evolution. This will be the greatest good.
I am jaded in my opinions because of my experience. I am going to say that tapping into this higher vibrational energy, which is going to improve life for everyone, is going to cause us to think and act differently. It is not going to be a good thing to do. It is going to be absolutely necessary for our survival because we cannot survive in a dream. What we are doing now, we cannot. It is not going to work. It is not sustainable.
It is going to collapse. We have to evolve ourselves to higher levels of virtue, higher levels of being, higher ways of thinking and feeling. That is a benefit to everyone, not just for the few rich people and the rest of us pawns in the game. It is the only way we will survive. That is my opinion. When you actually start tapping into the energy itself, you realise, this is awesome. If our evolution is going to be awesome, let us do it. Why not? What are we waiting for?
I want to ask you because you talk about all this in your book, which is titled The Subconscious, the Divine, and Me. You state that pain leads to suffering. Suffering leads to awareness, and awareness leads to healing. Do you want to talk to us about that?
Let us talk about pain first of all. Everyone in this life experiences trauma on some level. Either they bring it in from a past life, they experience it in the womb, they experience it from their mother in the womb, they get it when they’re young, or you can get it through any stage of life, like being a victim of war, PTSD stuff. We can experience trauma at any point in our lives. It is part of the human experience. It is important to understand the nature of emotion. Emotions are born to be experienced. That is it. That is all they’re born to do. That is part of the human experience. Part of it is emotional, and emotions are born to be experienced.
What you say, emotions are signposts for different things that are going on inside a person or indicators?
Absolutely. Good, bad, or indifferent. If they feel good, they want to go that way. If they feel bad, you do not want to go that way. There is no avoiding unpleasant emotions. It is part of the human experience. All the emotions are part of the human experience. The good, the bad, and the difficult. However, all of us, almost all of us, have a natural inclination, on a subconscious level, we do not know that we are doing it, we’re not aware of it, to avoid unpleasant emotions.
We do not want to experience depression, trauma, anger, or fear. Again, this is where it gets tricky. It is on a subconscious level. We avoid experiencing some of those things, so we are not consciously aware of them. We just do not want to do it. When that happens, these emotions get stuffed or suppressed into the subconscious mind. They’re still living creatures.
All they want to do is to be experienced. We have these feelings inside of us that want to be experienced. What will happen is that these living little creatures will start to create situations and scenarios in our lives where they can be experienced. We have fear inside of us. We are going to bring up a fearful experience that we can experience to feel the feeling. When these emotions are experienced, they can recycle back into the ether, because they’ll just be of the universe or the quantum energy field.
What happens, and this happens to everybody, so do not feel bad if this applies to you, is that when we continue to ignore those suppressed emotions on a subconscious level, again, we do not know that we are doing it consciously, what we will start to see are repeating patterns of the same pain over and over again, and everybody has those. If you think you have some subconsciously suppressed or stuffed emotion in your subconscious, it is creating difficulties in your life, then look for repeating patterns of pain.
You’re leading to awareness, right?
Yeah. When you start to become aware of your repeating patterns of pain, then you are stepping into the arena of awareness. “Wait a minute. This is happening over and over again. I got divorced. I was raised by an abusive father. I got married to an abusive guy. I got rid of him, and now I am in another marriage, and he is abusive too.”

We have got repeating patterns, or it can happen with finances or health. It does not take much reflection to see the repeating patterns in your life. Now we are stepping into the arena of awareness. We have repeating patterns of pain, and this leads us to the saying that says, “The most difficult times in our lives are when we forget or do not remember to ask for help.” When we’re not feeling good, that is a time we need to ask for help. This is where we can go to a lot of different types of healers or people to help you through the process.
The most difficult times in our lives are when we forget to ask for help. Share on X
For my expertise is I will take you into a relaxed state, to a meditative state. When you go into that meditative state, this thing called the critical faculty of the mind, between the conscious and the subconscious mind, this little barrier will let down. When you go into a relaxed state, a peacefully relaxed state, your subconscious mind will open up, and then you have access to these suppressed emotions, and there are many techniques where you can release these emotions. That is where we call healing. That is where we get into the healing.
That makes room for more of the good stuff to come through, because you’re not repeating the patterns from that bad stuff that you have not healed.
When we get into healing, that takes us to the next stage, and that is awakening. In the healing process, it is important to realise that when you release these emotions from the past, they’re all from the past, and nothing we do is in the present moment. We all live in the past on some level. When we release those, those repeating patterns will stop, and that’s called healing. Those repeating patterns will be less intense and occur at greater distances of time and frequency.
You can identify it because now you’re learning, “Here it comes again. What do I have to do about this?”
You can go get more help, or you can learn to do this stuff by yourself, because you can do it by yourself through meditative states. Most of us will have this stuff come up over and over again until it is finally gone, but it will come up with less intensity and over longer periods of time. That is called healing until they’re finally gone. They’re finally gone. Almost all of us have no more than a handful of issues that we need to work out in our lives. That is it. It is not much, but it needs to raise some awareness.
Differences Between The Conscious And Subconscious Minds
Just as I am thinking, we’re talking about the subconscious mind and the conscious mind. There are people probably tuning in or going, “What is a subconscious mind? What’s the difference?” Could you talk about the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind and explain the benefits of hypnotherapy? You just sort of touched on the role of hypnotherapy and the subconscious mind in healing grief. I just want to start to move into how you work with people with grief.
First of all, the conscious mind, that is our cognitive mind, our thinking mind. That is what we think with. This is a very active part of our mind. It is really too busy. It is really overdeveloped, especially since the Industrial Revolution. We have really gone into things we can do with our conscious mind, science, and medicine. Some of it is really good, but there is some of it that monkey mind that is based in fear and negativity and all that stuff. We all have that.
We all have that, and your mind has so many thoughts, and you cannot really control your thinking. You can focus it to be more positive and stuff like that, which can help. Our minds are going all the time. In the subconscious mind, so that is more of the head. I call the subconscious mind more of the heart, but it is the home of the non-physical aspects of the human experience. This would be our intuition, our dreams, our creative flashes, our memories, the non-physical stuff.
When we go into hypnotherapy, that is what we are accessing. Also, emotions live in the subconscious. When we go into hypnotherapy, we have access to those things, and it is often referred to as the suspended dream state. What you’re doing is you are going into this dream-like state of mind that you can open up and sustain for up to an hour or so. You can focus on it. The subconscious mind is actually, in my opinion, the larger part of who we are.
It is incredibly powerful. It works very differently from the conscious mind in the three-dimensional world. This is the part of our human psyche that we’re going to be in the future. We are going to be in the evolution of developing this part of us, because we have not even touched the surface yet. We’re barely scratching the surface of what this part of us can do. In my opinion, our evolution as a species is going to learn to tap into the non-physical aspects of our being and use it.
That is so cool.
When you get in there, there is an energy in there. You can align to this thing called divine energy or spiritual quantum energy, whatever it is you want to call it. This higher energy resonates at a very high frequency. We are just beginning to tap into it, and it operates at very, very high levels of integrity. In order to optimise this energy, we have to be there at those higher levels.
Greed and all that stuff or selfishness ain’t going to fly, it is not going to work. We have to go into this energy that is the benefit for all to access higher states. We are going to live from a place of compassion, forgiveness, self-acceptance, or gratitude. In the future, this is my idea, that we’re going to be able to use this energy for the benefit of life on this planet.
We know already that we can heal with it. It is really good for spiritual and emotional healing. We know that already. What if we could take this energy and direct it towards our environment, our politics, or our financial systems? All of our systems that are so broken, the education, the healthcare, the government systems, the finances.
All those things are so broken. What would happen if we could consciously interact with this energy in those systems? How that is going to happen will be a miracle. We are stepping into the age of the miraculous. I can only throw the questions out there. I can do my part to contribute to that, which I am doing as much as I can. We get all these really high vibe people together. What can we do?
How Hypnotherapy And Energy Healing Can Help Deal With Grief
That’s absolutely true. Let me ask you a question. Someone comes to you, and they are grieving very hard. Someone comes to you, and they just had a loss. How does what you do help them to start to deal with grief?
First of all, when we talk about grief, it is really important to understand, especially when you’re going through it, that grief is normal. You do not want to grieve. There are going to be tons of emotions that come up during the grieving process. You want to step into those emotions and experience them so they dissipate into the ether. There is going to be depression and anger and all of those emotions that come up, and you think you’re done grieving, and then another wave comes up again, and it goes on for who knows how long.
Depending on how close you are to someone, it could go on for years, 2 or 3 years. That is normal. At some point, the grieving is going to end. In my experience of grief, I have seen a lot, and I’ve gone through a lot of grief. Most people who end the grief go through it. They’ve gone through their pattern of grief. At some point in the process, they make not a subconscious, but a conscious decision that “I’m done.” “I’ve done this, I am done.”
At some point in the grieving process, you will make a conscious decision to move on to a new place in your life. Share on X
Your grieving is over. You move on to a new place in your life. Where my work can help is that when people do not get to that I’m-done part and they are stuck in their grief too long. That is when the repeating patterns start coming up and up. That is where my work can be very beneficial in helping people access those emotions and let them go.
Those emotions are held in the subconscious. With what you do, are you pulling some of that emotion and some of that stuff out of their subconscious, helping them to let that go, to eliminate that?
Yep. If they’re actually in the grieving cycle itself, the normal, natural part, you can accelerate the grieving process by taking them into those emotions and helping them experience them. I know this is going to be painful, but you need to do this. You need to be sad. You need to be depressed. You need to be angry. You need to be whatever emotions are part of the grieving process. You need to do those things. You all want to dwell on them. You want to experience them so they can cycle through and so you can be free.
I would say that when people work with you, another good part of that is your very safe feeling. You feel like a safe hammock. When you’re exposed to hypnotherapy, I would think some people would be embarrassed, but what might come up with you is that it feels like safety.
The kind of work that I do, or anybody who does the kind of work that I do, the foundation of the success of that work is in trust. You have to live up to your trustworthiness.
How To Get Help From Your Guardian Angels
There is another thing I want to ask you, because you say that every single person comes into a lifetime with the help of guardian angels. You want to tell them what that looks like, what that is, and how many they have got in a lifetime?
It is different for everyone. What I can do in my sessions is that I can help people call in their guardian angels. They may see somebody come in or feel somebody. It can be like someone like a Buddha or Jesus, or it can be an ancestor, it can be an animal, or a colour, a shape, or whatever. When they go through those experiences, a lot of people are readily accessible to those. They just come right in. “There is my guide.” When we call those in, I ask them to help in the healing session because those guides are real.
Do we have two guides or three guides? You have as many as you need for the task at hand.
I am not sure. It is different for everyone, but I know that probably most of us have way more than one. I have had some experiences where I’ve had what I would call guardian angels come through into the physical. I’ve had a couple of those, and those are.
I know you had some infusions and downloads at retreats.
These were different. Remember when I told you that I was going through those spiritual awakening experiences that led to divorce?
Right.
Both of the times, I was coming into this energy like big time, but at the same time, I was devastated emotionally because I did not want to get divorced either time. Both of my experiences of guardian angels in human form, actually, I’ve had probably three in human form, have come in lieu of those difficult times after divorce, during an awakening experience.
One was that after my first one, which I was really down in the dumps on that one, some friends of mine said, “Man, let’s go for a hike. Let’s go climb Mount Olympus in the Olympic National Park in Washington.” It is like this, 9,000 feet. It is a technical climb. We have to go over glaciers and stuff. We go on this hike, I was in charge of bringing the food or putting it into the car, and we’re loading up, we get 10 miles down the road, and this was my state of mind. I forgot to put the food in the car.
I had to drive back and get it. “It does not matter. I am so depressed. Anyway, it does not matter.” We get to the mountain, and it is a two-day hike in. It is 18 miles. We do it in two days. We get up at the base of the mountain where we’re doing our technical climb, we get up at four in the morning because we have to get up really early to summit the peak. We get up to the peak, it is a complete whiteout, so we have to go up using compasses because we did not, and there are crevasses all over.
I did not really care. We get up to the mountain, and there are the last hundred feet to go up there, and I am really depressed. I said, “It was the last hundred feet, I’m not going to go up to the top.” I did not even go all the way to the top. These other guys were with us. We come back down the mountain, and I actually posthole into a crevasse. That means I step up to my, I fell through up to my crotch, one leg dangling in a crevasse. It was really symbolic of the state of mind I was in.
It was like that’s your conscious and that’s your subconscious piece.
This is Mount Olympus we are on. We get back down to this hut where we started that morning, and we are lying there reading stories, eating gorp, and we’re really tired. It is getting about sunset, and we hear in the distance like someone is coming up the trail. These people are coming up the trail, and it is two people and their kids from Germany. It is a man and a woman from East Germany.
This is in 1991, and they left Berlin just before the wall came down. They’re from East Berlin, and they were living in Vancouver, BC. These people walk up. They’re probably in their 30s. They’re just a gorgeous couple. They were beautiful. They have these two beautiful children, a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old daughter. They come up, and they’re completely clean. They’re not sweating. There is no dirt on them. They have two little kids coming up that long hike, where they have to carry gear and stuff.
The man and the woman, they look like they’ve just walked out of a fashion magazine. That is weird. We talked to them, and I realised, “God, this is like the perfect family.” They go up and continue up the trail towards where you start the mountain, but there is absolutely no place to camp up there. It is just boulders and dirt, and there is no level place. It is probably up a hundred yards, and there is no way they could get a tent in for one person, let alone two.
There was just too much heather, and it was too thick. The sun is going down, and I am going with my buddies. I go, “I’m getting worried about these people because they didn’t look like they really knew what they were doing.” I go up to around the corner to find out where they’re at. I could not find them. They were not there. They disappeared. There were no footprints. There was no tent pitched anywhere. They were a perfect family that disappeared.
I went back to my friends, and I said, “I am worried about these guys. Maybe I should, maybe you should come back with us.” We just went to sleep, and I forgot about it. We got up the next morning, and we’re going to hike out. I was really worried about these people because they could have fallen or something. I said, “You guys, I’m going to just go up and just check on this German family just one more time.”
They both looked at me, and they said, “What German family?” I went out, and there was no sign of them. As I am walking down the trail, as we are walking out these 18 miles, and I was deeply depressed, my depression vanished to a point where I went through a complete personality change, where I was exuberant and excited for life. My only explanation I have for that experience was that these were guardian angels that came through in the flesh to help me personally.
That is amazing. I’ve had a couple of those experiences. They are incredible. I completely resonate with what you’re saying. Once I was a kid and I was almost drowning. A guy suddenly seemed to surface from the bottom of the lake, and like, for me to see when I looked to find him and thank him, he’s gone.
Those things do happen. I’ve had them happen a few times, but it is not something you share at a cocktail party or something.
All About Joseph’s Healing Sessions, Meditation Retreats, And More
It depends on who is at the cocktail party. I want to know, I think you’ve got a lot to share with us about the courses you give, the healing sessions you give, and the meditation retreats. You may even have a special offering for our audience.
Let us talk about the special offering first. If you go to my website at JDHAcademy.org, on the front page, there’s a little free PDF you can download called The Art of Meditation. It takes you through some of the things I’ve learned about meditation over the years.
You’ll make sure that we have the link for that so we can show that in our show notes.
What was the other question?
Tell us about your courses, your healing sessions, and your meditation retreats.
I have created over 40 online courses. I have over 20,000 students worldwide. My main courses that people are interested in are my hypnotherapy certification course. It is a 150-hour certification course to teach you the art of hypnotherapy. I also have an energy healing course, which helps share some of the stuff that I’ve learned through my experiences at Oneness University and some other places.
I have lots and lots of other courses on specific issues. I actually have one for grief. Those are just meditation courses. It is for personal enrichment courses. You can just go through anyone who got them for anger, anxiety, or just because I have too many. I did that for a while. In any case, those are on my website too. You can go to my website, and they’ll have the different courses.
What about the healing sessions?
Healing sessions. I do private healing sessions to tap you into the healing power of your own subconscious mind. I can do those on Zoom or in person, either way, and they’re just as effective either way. Usually, for most people to get the maximum. The first one, you’re going to get introduced to how your internal process works. The first one is an introduction to how your process works. I give a verification sheet at the end of each session. It is essentially a tick list of things to look for after the session.
When the session is over, I send a follow-up email to people just so you can check that stuff off, which gives you a clear indication that what we’re doing is working. What that does is that helps build awareness. We are working on the subconscious. We see positive things happen in our physical life. That also builds confidence that the process is working. Confidence is huge. No matter what you do, including spiritual stuff, the more confidence you have, the more likely you are to have success.
Someone comes to you and says, “Meditation is ridiculous. I cannot meditate. My brain is too busy.” You have actual meditation retreats. Do people like that come to you and you teach them how to get rid of all that busyness over there?
People like that do not come to me. They are self-screening. The people who come to me are interested in meditation, and maybe they do not know what it is, or they want to learn more about it, or they want to take their own healing process. Those are the people who come to see, and those are the people that I can help.
It is for people who have no experience, or it can be for people who are at a high level, like people that I’ve trained and stuff that want to take the awakening process further, of learning how to use this energy. When you clean out and clear out your subconscious through healing, it is not really systematic, but then that is when the subconscious is open to accessing higher levels of energy.
It is really exciting.
Healing and awakening go hand in hand. You cannot do one without the other. They are both integrated.
Are your meditation retreats at a location?
I do most of those online right now. Those usually last about 90 minutes, and some of them are for healing, and some of them are for awakening. It just depends on what you want to do. Sometimes I will collaborate with people, sometimes also.
You’re hitting a lot, you’re getting to a lot of people, you’re helping a lot of people to heal. Why is it important for each of us to focus on healing in this lifetime? “I am grieving, have this stuff we’ve talked about, my subconscious has some stuff.” Why would you encourage people who are tuning in to this to do their work? Explore and tap into those higher realms of consciousness and do their healing work.
It’s very simple. It is to improve the quality of life. That is it. It is to experience more joy, more connection to other people. That is so huge. It is one of our problems with technology. It has made us increasingly isolated. Hopefully, part of our evolution as a species is going to help us reconnect because technology has taken a lot away from us. It has given us a lot, but it has taken a lot away also. Being more joyful, being more connected, feeling like you have purpose in life, and discovering what that purpose is, and to live your life fully.
Grieving Is Part Of The Process
It is fabulous. Speaking of being more joyful, what is your tip for finding joy in life?
If you’re grieving, realise that grieving is part of the process, but in that process, do what you love to do. Do whatever it is. Whether it’s outdoors or indoors with people, I highly recommend that you do what you love to do with other people.
Grieving is part of the process. But in that process, do what you love to do. Share on X
Allow yourself to feel the joy in that. It’s because some people close it off.

That’s part of the whole game. The higher vibration is a very joyful place to be.
I could not agree more, Joseph. In closing, I want to express to you my heartfelt gratitude for the profound impact you’ve had on thousands of seekers, creatives, and conscious professionals. Your guidance has helped so many dissolve inner barriers, remember who they truly are, and step boldly into the fullest expression of their purpose. I want to thank you for being a steadfast champion of humanity’s evolution, offering soul-level transformation with such depth, clarity, and compassion, and I really wish you abundant blessings. Thank you for this.
Thank you. It is a joy to be here.
Thank you so much. As I like to say, to be continued.
It never ends.
