Connecting with Jake through Mediumship: The Unbreakable Bond Beyond Life
Irene, thank you so much for that beautiful introduction. I’m so honored and so grateful to be here. Thank you.
Thank you. Our souls are connected. I’m sure Jake and Saul are enjoying every moment of this, and they’re right here with us. As we get into the story of you and the wonderful work that you do and how you can help all the people, so many people in our readers who are grieving and going through all kinds of traumas and situations in their lives. How about starting with describing your close bond with Jake and the clear and profound ways he came to you immediately after he passed?
Jake was a huge fall of energy, a great kid, very charismatic, liked to the party, lots of energy, lots of joy, and lots of friends. Just as loud as he was when he was here, he’s been just as loud now that he’s in spirit. We always had a very close bond, more than just a mother-son. I could look at his face and know what he was thinking, and he could look at my face and know what I was thinking. Just true soulmates. There was always a worry with him.
He was always a daredevil, and I always had a worry with him that I didn’t have with my daughter. I couldn’t picture him as an adult either. It was very strange. I can picture my daughter getting married and having children someday, but I couldn’t picture that with my son. In a way, it was my soul re-remembering on a subconscious level that we had something planned and that he wasn’t going to be here very long. Right after he passed, he started coming through to me immediately. I had always been intuitive my whole life, but it really just changed everything to a whole new level.
How did you hear him? Was he coming into your head? Were you getting words? Were you getting sentences? Were you getting signs? What was he doing?
That’s all of the above, but immediately after he passed, like even the day that we found out, like hearing, I heard his ringtone that he would text me with.
Really?
Yeah. Outside of my ears. I don’t know where it came from, but I heard his ringtone. The day after the funeral, there’s a story with the butterfly. You want me to tell you that story now?
Sure.

The day of the funeral, the funeral director came over to my daughter and I and handed me a sunflower that had a fake butterfly on it. She said, “This fell out of the car, and I just feel like I need to give it to you.” My daughter still has it in her room. She kept it. The very next day after the funeral, I went out into my backyard to just fall apart. I started sobbing and crying and just calling out, “Where are you?”
This beautiful monarch butterfly came over and started fluttering around on the grass in a big circle, like trying to get my attention. I dropped down onto the ground, and the butterfly landed literally a foot away, holding onto the blade of grass. I’m crying, and I’m talking to this butterfly, and I’m saying, “Jake, is that you? I know this is a sign.” It sat with me for about twenty minutes. My husband and my daughter came out to the backyard.
It wasn’t moving. That’s so amazing.
The wind’s blowing, and it’s holding on like for dear life. After about 40 minutes, no kidding, we took pictures. I said to the butterfly, “Jake, we know it’s you. You can go now.” In that instant, it let go of the grass, got up, and flew away and went over the house. That was just like the day after the funeral. Later that day, there was a rainbow over our house the day after the funeral. Just signs galore.
I saw him in my mind’s eye, like a vision of him. He was just coming through right away. I just knew that there was something going on. A couple of weeks later, my husband knew somebody through work whose wife was a medium, but I didn’t know her, and she didn’t know me. The husband asked my husband to have me reach out to her, that my son wanted to talk to me through her. I reached out to this woman who’s a medium. I didn’t know her.
He kept her awake or something.
He kept her awake for two nights, asking her to contact me. We talked for like five hours on the phone. In the conversation, she told me that I was a medium and that my son wanted me to know he would be helping me from the other side. In that moment, I just felt this so much like profound love. It made sense why I had been the way I was my whole life. It just all put this big wanting to learn more as much as I could. It set me on a profound journey of wanting to find him in the afterlife. It just set the ball rolling with me studying mediumship and getting to where I am.
Divine Plans: Understanding Soulmate Connections & Life’s Purpose
How did you figure out that you and Jake had a divine plan? I know you’re soulmates, but you’re also part of a divine plan like I am with my husband. I know how that happened for me. How did you know that? Did the medium tell you that?
No, it’s because of the strong connection I have with my son. I communicated with him through channel writing. I do journaling, I meditate, and then I have him write to me. It’s just been so profound what’s come through. For the first two years, I would say after he passed, I felt him so on top of me, so closely putting the breadcrumbs in place for me to follow the steps of which way to go and putting people in my path that I needed to see. It’s just been quite a journey.
Not only that, though, it’s so amazing because it’s such a comfort when he’s with you, and you’re going to be with him again. It changes the whole thing. That’s why I loved encouraging people to reach out to a medium because I think it helps with grief. It’s such a comfort. You’ve also got some great story with the Long Island medium at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City? Do you want to share that with us?
That happened right in the beginning, too. My son was planning on spending his 21st birthday at the Borgata Casino, and he had it all booked and planned with his friend. It was a couple of weeks before his birthday that he passed. Prior to that, that’s all he had been talking about for several weeks. Like, “I’m going to Borgata.”
He was so excited to be turning 21. After he passed, a few nights later, I couldn’t sleep, obviously. I was wanting to research mediums. I just knew I had to. The only medium at that time I knew of was the Long Island medium because my daughter and I watched her on TV all the time. I got on the computer at three in the morning, and I started Googling. I see that Theresa Caputo, the Long Island medium, is going to be doing the show on his birthday at the Borgata Casino.
What a coincidence.
This is only like a week after he passed, and the show was in two weeks. I immediately bought two tickets for my daughter a few nights ago. The next day, I told my husband, and he said, “I want to go too.” I didn’t think he’d want to go. I bought him a separate ticket.
Was your husband open to all of this, by the way, or did your husband start to open after Jake passed?
He’s always been open, but not to the degree that we’re open to now in any way. It’s important that I tell you that his seat was separate from ours. I had two tickets for my daughter and I to be sitting together. I had a third seat I bought for my husband. Driving to the casino that night on his birthday, just a couple of weeks after he passed, I say to my husband, “What can Jake do that you would know it’s him?” He’s still skeptical at this point.
My husband says, “I don’t know. When we used to say hi to each other, we always used to fist-bump like, yo, dad. We would fist-bump each other hello.” That’s what he said in the car. We get to the show. I was a nervous wreck. I couldn’t eat dinner. We went to try to eat dinner beforehand. I was a nervous wreck, but I knew in my heart he was going to be there because he told me for weeks, “I’m going to be at the Borgata casino.”
We get into the show. There are 2500 people in the room. She starts her spiel, but she keeps looking right at me, and she comes over as she gets started. She comes over. She goes, “I have to come to you. Your son is telling me.” “Theresa, you’re taking too long. I have to talk to my mother.” She goes into this reading for my daughter and I. My daughter and I are standing there like shaking, like we cannot believe this is happening. It was amazing.
We knew it was him. He validated a lot of things. She goes on with the rest of her show. Towards the end of the show, she ends up in the back where my husband was sitting. She goes over to my husband. She goes, “I have to talk to you. Your son’s coming through.” Now, she has no idea that we’re connected in any way. She goes over to my husband, she goes, “Your son’s coming through, and he’s going like this.”
Grief is truly our greatest teacher. Share on X
She fist-pumped my husband. My husband burst into tears, and that was just like an earth-shattering moment for him. It came out that we were connected. People were coming up to us in the show afterward, like how it meant so much to them to hear the story. That’s how strong he is that out of 2,500 people, he got her to come to both of us in the same night.
That’s fantastic. Not only that, which what happens with mediums and galleries and all that thing is sometimes people don’t get a reading for themselves, but it benefits them because they hear something amazing that comes through for someone else or it connects with something that they need to know. Here, you had people coming up to you.
We had people coming up to us at the show that night saying, “That meant so much to hear that story.” It was a healing, not just for us, but for so many people that were there.
Healing Through Grief: Mediumship, Tools, Techniques, and Spiritual Awakening
It’s so beautiful. Now you know Jake’s here, you’ve gotten your messages and the whole thing, but you’re still grieving your heart out, you’re frying your eyes out. What healing modalities did you use, and how did they lead to this mediumship?
Healing is a journey. It’s a lot of work. It doesn’t just happen overnight. There’s no right or wrong way to grieve, as we know. It’s not something you ever get over. It’s something we have to learn how to get through. Those first couple of years, I found it important to try to clear out all my energetic gunk that “I wanted to do whatever I could to be able to raise my vibration so that I can be more in tune with spirit.”
I have always been a yoga practitioner. I dove deep into doing the yoga. I was introduced to Reiki and went to Reiki sessions. I got attuned to Reiki. I found that very healing. Having gratitude. I tried to make a conscious effort. I still try to do it to this day, but I try to do at least one good thing for my soul every day. Whether it’s take a walk up to the beach. Go stand out in the sunshine, and put fresh flowers in the house.
I find that so important that we have to be able to raise our vibration. I would go to crystal bowl meditations and sound healing once a week. I love the crystal bowls. That does raise your vibration and help clear things out. I took classes in angel circles. I went to the spiritual awakening group at the local meditative spiritual shops down by us down the shore here. I did a past-life regression. I did a Beyond Quantum Healing. That was amazing. I had an out-of-body experience.
What is that like, the Beyond Quantum Healing? What is that?
That was a profound part of my healing. About a year and a half after he passed, I went to a dear spiritual, intuitive friend of mine from the local metaphysical shop here down the shore. She’s a beautiful soul. It was a four-hour session based on the Dolores Cannon work, and it was Beyond Quantum Healing.
I think I know who you went to. I think I might’ve interviewed her.
Healing is a journey, it's a lot of work, it doesn't just happen overnight. There's no right or wrong way to grieve. Share on X
I don’t know. Her name’s Iris. She’s a beautiful soul.
That’s a different person I interviewed with Quantum Healing, but that’s great to know also.
In the session, you get to write up questions and ask your soul, like your higher self. Things you want to know, you want to know. Somehow, this woman was able to get me into a state where I was out of my body. You’re in the room, but you’re not there. It was like almost having a near-death experience, but it was not a near-death experience.
It was an out-of-body experience. In the experience, I literally was on a beach with my son. We were reunited. He was with me. We were together. It was just the most profound healing thing that could have ever happened for me to see him and know that he was with me. It was wild. At one point, there was a monk in the room healing me. It was really beautiful. It’s a very good session. Besides that, I dove deep into the mediumship.
I knew I wanted to make my connection with Jake as strong as possible. I started studying, not to do readings for other people but to strengthen my connection. It was so natural and automatic that it just kept growing. I’ve spent many years doing psychic development, medium workshops, sitting in circles, mentoring, and taking classes.
You were learning to do, and you were doing channeled writing?
The channel writing, I do that with Jake. In the beginning, we’d meditate. When I was in a Reiki session one day, the woman said, “Your son wants to write to you, too.” I was like, “I could try that.” I still do it to this day. I don’t do it as often as I used to, but I’ll write to him and then meditate and then have him write to me. In the beginning, you think you’re making it up. You think, “I’m just writing what I think I want him to say.”
I would ask him to give me proof. He’ll tell me things like, “Look for whatever.” They show up. Once, he said something random like, “I’m going to see a big teddy bear with a red bow tie.” It’s crazy. The next day, I’m going to yoga, coming home from yoga, I’m driving home, and all of a I look over and sticking out of somebody’s garbage can is this huge teddy bear they’re throwing away with a big red bow tie on it. I literally slammed on the brakes to take a picture of it. It’s like crazy signs.
That’s so wonderful.
He gave me one to prove that it’s him. Once, he told me to look for a three-legged animal, and I thought, “That’s random.” After I was done journaling with him, I walked up to the beach. I’m standing out there looking at the ocean, and I hear him in my head say, “Turn around.” I turn around, I look across the street, and there’s a couple walking a dog that has three legs. It’s just mind-blowing.
That is fabulous, though. It really gives people so much hope that it’s not over when it’s over.
Absolutely. There’s so much more.
Gail, in addition to being a medium though, you studied to become an intuitive brief coach and a certified grief educator. Could you describe this part of your journey and how Jake is working with you? Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about that?
The intuitive grief coaching I did a few years back through Sue Frederick, who’s a wonderful soul. I love Sue.
I interviewed her. She’s marvelous.
I’ve been on her podcast, too, years back. She’s a very beautiful spiritual teacher with the intuitive grief coaching that’s helping someone see things from their soul’s point of view and to see the bigger picture. A lot of times, if we’re just focused on the physicalness of everything, it gets to be so overwhelming. I believe there’s a divine plan and that our souls choose these bodies, these shells, to come in with our soulmates to have a lesson.
What Jake has told me is that “This is the dream, and where he is, where they are, is the real reality.” Someday when we wake up there, we’re going to be like, “That life is Gail. That seems so real. Why did I take it so seriously? It wasn’t all that so serious.” Just this past year, I studied with David Kessler to do his grief educator work. Although I’m not doing sessions per se, I do tie it all together when I do my medium readings. I think it’s really important as a medium to have some background in grief education and grief work because that’s really what it is. Mediumship is healing with words.
I think that’s wonderful.
I take it very seriously.
Intuitive Grief Coaching & Finding Your “Place of Knowing”
When people come to you, they not only get their deceased loved one coming through, but you can help coach them and help them through their grief, which is beautiful. We’re going to provide links to how people can get ahold of you to have sessions with you and all of that. Do you do your sessions online also by Zoom and online on Zoom?
Yep.
That’s great. How did the journaling with Jake take you to a place of what you call your place of knowing? Why was this a turning point in your grief? Were there any other signs during that time that Jake used to let that this was, “Yeah mom, it’s me, I’m here.” We all stay a little skeptical until it’s okay.
It’s just been so many signs over the years, so many profound ways. In writing with him, I’ve just been able to feel such a close connection with him, and words that come out on the page or things that I wouldn’t have thought to say. I just know that it’s not coming from me. I know it’s coming from him. Once I was able to get to that place of truly knowing in my heart that it’s real where he is and that he’s not gone.
Our relationship can continue. It’s just going to have to be different for now. Just getting to that place of knowing is the point where I was able to take the turn. The physical missing is never going to go away. I still have moments when I cry. I’m human. As long as we’re human, we’re always going to still have that missing of physicalness. When I can look above from my soul’s point of view and see that this is just a temporary spot that we’re in and that there’s so much more, it helps.
It’s not an understatement to say that love never dies. They’re with us. Why do you say that grief is our greatest teacher? A lot of people reading this would say, “Gail, how can you say that? I’m in so much pain. I’m suffering. How is this teaching me something?”
When we come here, we don’t come here for the fun and games. The souls that come here for the harder journeys are here to be on the fast track to learn, and what could be worse than loss? Losing someone that we love. We have to remember they’re not lost. Grief cracks our hearts wide open, and it opens us up to things that we may never have been able to experience.
We come here to grow and evolve and change and to raise our vibration and expand our consciousness and elevate. If we just spend our life here having things just move along swimmingly well, happening, what growth is there going to be? It’s when these big things happen that we really are able to make the most growth and advancement. That’s where we learn our lessons through the pain. When we can remember our loved ones with more love than pain, that’s when the healing really takes place.
I think it’s a matter of choice because some people, they lose someone and see if you agree with me with this. They lose someone, and that’s where they’re going to stay stuck the rest of their lives. “I am in pain. I suffered. I lost this person. It’s over for me.” As opposed to other people who go through this unbelievable loss and they look at that they go, “What am I going to learn from this and how can I grow from this?”
Mediumship helps with that because then the person isn’t totally lost to you and all of that thing. It is a choice of how people decide that they’re going to process. People who are reading this blog are making a choice that they want to learn and they want to grow, which is just such a beautiful thing to not “You came here to learn lessons.” You’re doing your job. Did you want to say something else?
No, I had a thought come in and out, but I don’t know. It’s okay. If it comes back, I’ll say it.
Speaking of love, take time every day to tell the ones you love just how much you love them because at the end of the day, all that matters is love. Share on X
You and I are part of this divine plan. Me with Saul, with my husband Saul, and you with Jake, and we each have a continuing helpful connection with each of them. Please share why you believe that the way you and I originally met was set up by Saul and Jake, which is how they work on the other side, because I love this story. I want to share that with people so that they understand that the synchronicities, the coincidences, are not accidental.
They’re not. That was another game changer for me, too, in my grief. When I was truly able to say, “There are no coincidences.” When that song comes on the radio, it makes you think of your loved one. That’s not a coincidence. That’s your loved one when you get to that realization that helps. To give the backstory with how you and I connected, my son kept telling me to have this woman, Bobby, going to be having on your show, that you should be talking to her.
I know Bobby is. I’m in her book, You Don’t Know Jack! The background with that was a few years back, I was doing free practice readings because I did that for many years before I started doing readings professionally. Someone reached out to me through a friend of a friend to ask me to do a practice reading with her. I didn’t even know this woman’s last name to tell you the truth.
During the reading, after I was connecting for her, this man named Jack came in and started connecting, and the woman said, “This Jack is not for me, but I know who this is. He’s my best friend’s husband who just passed two months ago.” She said, “Keep going, and I’ll get the message to my friend, Bobby.”
She started recording, and I started just going in. I had no idea if any of it was connecting because it’s going through like a third party here. Afterwards, she came back to me and said, “I gave the recording to my friend, and she said every single thing you said made sense and connected.” For me, I know it was spirit setting me up to teach me a lesson because I was still in the beginning stages of like, “Am I really doing this?”
You have the imposter syndrome. That was to me like proof because here the messages came to somebody I didn’t know her last name. They were coming through her to someone else who I didn’t even know existed, and they all were accurate. A couple of months later, this woman, Bobby, reached out to me for a reading for herself, not telling me who she was.
Right away, Jack came through again, and I gave her a reading, and then we just took it from there. It inspired her so much that she wrote her book, which is a fabulous true story about their love story and how he promised her he would get through to her and let her know he made it to the other side. He sure did. He used me to get through because he saw my light was on.
That’s what they do. It happened to me with 9/11. I was getting a reading, and I got this reading for someone, and I didn’t recognize it, but it felt like it was about a guy that Saul and I had skied with for many years. He worked at the World Trade Center. I said to myself, “I wonder if that’s a message for his wife.” I hadn’t seen her in quite a few years, called her up, and she said, “Yes.” It was very similar and was right on. Jake got Bobby to connect with me to connect with you.
Yes.
They work hard on the other side. They make to get us.
They sure do. That’s what I said earlier. They drop the breadcrumbs and put the people in your path that you need to, or they would help you the most because it’s all love over there. They want to help us. They want to make it easier.
They try to make things happen, and they’re whispering in ears and all different kinds of things. It comes down to, choose to open to it or do we choose to or not.
It’s always a choice.
The Choice to Heal: Love Never Dies & Finding Joy in the Present
Gail, what does healing mean to you now that you’ve done so much healing? Why is it important, which is a passion of mine, to tell people to “Heal your stuff. You do not have to be suffering with this backpack of suffering, carrying him around everywhere you go.” How can we know when we’re healing?
Healing is so important because, like you said, you don’t want to carry this around, weighing you down. I always say, though, that the definition of healing is being put back to its original like when you break your arm, it heals and the bones go back together. I like to say we’re never going to be truly healed because the truth is, we’re not going to be back to the way we were before our loved ones left. That’s okay. We’re mending. We’re trying to put the pieces back together in a way now that’s going to fit. We’re trying to restore ourselves back to a way that we can remember our loved ones and have a continued connection with them. To me, it is very important. To know that they’re not gone forever. They’re still very involved and very much a part of our lives.
In a way, you’re not dragging around your suffering with you everywhere you go if you’re healing, and it changes your perspective.
You can change your perspective to your soul’s point of view to know that this was all divinely orchestrated, and a lot of times, we carry around a lot of guilt and regret after our loved ones pass. That’s just weighing us down, too. If we can look at it from our soul’s point of view and let those things go, it can help us to really to heal. It’s hard work.
It is hard work, and it takes courage, but like somebody going to you, if they’re carrying around all that guilt and everything, then you’re not only bringing forth your loved one, but you’re helping them to process that guilt.
Let go of the what could have been, what it should have been, and all the regrets.
That’s a blessing. That’s so wonderful.

Knowing that each soul has their own divine plan and knowing that it’s not our job to fix or change somebody else’s soul plan. Every soul has their own journey, and we’re not that powerful to change somebody else’s journey. We just have to be responsible for ourselves.
It takes away judgment, doesn’t it? If you see people misbehaving or doing certain things in life, you can say, “That’s their journey. They have lessons to learn from that. I cannot partake in that drama.” Speaking of a soul’s perspective, what is your tip for finding joy in life from a soul’s perspective?
Being able to make something good come out of something bad and turning my pain into my purpose. I’ve found mediumship to be so healing for me that I want to pay it forward and help others as much as I can. My joy comes from each and every time I find a profound connection to my son and to spirit and in all the magical, mystical ways that he sends me signs and synchronicities and messages. Being able to look through my soul’s lens that this is all for the greater good. He’s taught me that at the end of the day, all that matters is love and to try to live each day in the present moment with gratitude and don’t look back, don’t look too much ahead, just live in the present moment. That brings me joy.
That’s beautiful. Thank you so much, Gail. I am so grateful that Saul and Jake so successfully connected us. I’d like to share this very wise quote that Jake told you to write on his thank you cards after his passing with our readers. The quote is, “Speaking of love, take time every day to tell the ones you love just how much you love them because at the end of the day, all that matters is love.”
That is beautiful.
It’s so beautiful. What a beautiful thing for people to receive, having brought their love to you at a funeral or whatever, and for him to give you that to write them in their thank you notes. Your elevated gifts are a true blessing for all those who are hurting from the loss of their loved ones because you confirm for them that there is no death. We continue to exist after we leave this physical world, and that love keeps us eternally connected. How well and how deeply do you and I know this for sure? My heartfelt thanks for this special interview, Gail, with its life-changing insights. As I like to say, to be continued.
Thank you.
Thank you so much, and many blessings from my heart.
Thank you.
